Warren Gakuo

Warren Gakuo is a Nairobi-based photographer and curator and the founder of The Blackrobi Collective, a creative platform rooted in photography, culture, and the documentation of Nairobi’s creative community.

His relationship with photography began through his father, whose love for film photography introduced him to the power of documenting everyday life. Growing up around his father’s camera, Warren eventually began photographing his classmates in high school before inheriting his father’s old camera, that continues to shape his practice today.

For nearly a decade, photography has become Warren’s way of observing, interpreting, and preserving the world around him. His work spans portraiture, fashion, editorial, and lifestyle photography, with a particular affinity for black-and-white imagery. Through monochrome, he seeks to remove distraction and draw attention to character, emotion, presence, and human connection.

At the heart of his practice is a commitment to authenticity and intentionality. Whether documenting artists, creatives, family, or the environments they inhabit, Warren approaches each image as a collaboration and each encounter as an opportunity to preserve something meaningful.

Through The Blackrobi Collective, he continues to build a visual archive of Nairobi’s creative culture, creating photographs that do more than document a moment, but allow it to remain.
